Welcome to Camp!

A RICH TRADITION

Camp Tecumseh was founded in 1903 by three Olympians from the University of Pennsylvania: Alexander Grant, George W. Orton and Josiah McCracken. They believed that a summer in the White Mountains on the natural sandy shoreline of Lake Winnipesaukee working on their farm, swimming in the lake, learning the skills of various sports, singing on stage and climbing mountains was a healthy experience that would, in their words, “Make good boys better.”

TECUMSEH’S MISSION

Alexander Grant founded Tecumseh to “make good boys better.”  We interpret that philosophy today as an obligation to see that each child grows in self-confidence through a variety of activities, many of which are challenging. Tecumseh provides the place, the program and the people to enrich each camper’s life physically, spiritually, emotionally and socially. Through a summer-long program, Tecumseh fosters a spirit of community and camaraderie that lasts a lifetime.

ACCREDITATION

Camp Tecumseh is accredited by the American Camping Association and is a non-profit corporation accepting campers without regard to race, color or religion. Every three years Tecumseh is re-accredited to insure compliance with all safety and health regulations required by the ACA.

SCHOLARSHIP

The Blue-Gray Scholarship program provides financial assistance for deserving campers each summer. Working at camp is also a time-honored tradition and jobs are available for boys qualified to work in the kitchen, the tennis courts, the maintenance crew or the mail crew. Contact the Director for further information.
